b) scoring principles to be used by paper selection committee
30th March 2009: deadline for submission of synopses to Cigre UK
End April 2009: final synopses selection
Mid May 2009: UK synopses sent to CIGRE Central Office
July 2009: Authors notified
January 2010: Full papers submitted

If you might be interested in submitting a paper, and would like advice from a senior Cigre member on preparing it, then please contact me on chris.dent@ed.ac.uk (if you haven't already done so). Cigre UK and the NGN have set an ambitious target of 5 full papers from NGN members, so we'd like to have as many abstract submissions as possible.

Cigre UK intends once again to offer financial support to younger delegates attending the Paris Session. While it is too early to determine the level of support, or the number of subsidised places, accepted papers are likely to be a significant factor in allocating this support.

Best regards,
Chris Dent

Session Pictures

The ‘Session' is CIGRÉ's spearhead event; it has long been and continues to be the reference meeting for electrical professionals. The 2008 event was the 42nd Session; the Conference and Technical Exhibition brought together some 4000 delegates and visitors representing all sectors of the industry. This gave all concerned an opportunity to discuss technical issues of topical interest, to see the latest achievements by manufacturers and service suppliers. More importantly it provided professionals from all over the world with a unique platform for face-to-face networking and exchanges.

This was the first NGN event to be held at the CIGRÉ Session in Paris and included involvement from:

  • CIGRÉ-UK NGN members (in 2008).
  • Jean Kowel to 'officially open' NGN exhibition booth.
  • Selected CIGRÉ-UK members as members of Paper/Poster selection committee.

The Paris Session offered a chance for NGN members to take part in one of the best technical conferences/events, was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate to CIGRÉ what the NGN members are able to bring to the organisation, and promoted CIGRÉ-UK NGN activities & developments to introduce the idea of having an International NGN Event in 2010. It is forseen that a publication of papers and posters will be available online. It is also expected that an overview of the NGN involvement will be published in the CIGRÉ ELECTRA magazine. Please await further updates for this
